Creating steps
« on: December 05, 2015, 11:17:00 AM »
SELECT THE TOOL

>>>toolbar>>>steps

QUICK DESCRIPTION

>>> draw some forms on a mesh or use its faces / surfaces
>>> select faces/meshes in the desired sequence
>>> create steps (context)

With unselected gaps single steps will be created.

DETAILS:

You can easily create simple steps from any mesh.

Just select the faces / surfaces in the desired order and create steps from the context menu.
The order will be reverted automatically, when the last step (in SE, see below) is lower then the first step.

The height of the steps is defined in the context menu, so

- with AUTO the height is interpolated between

          - the heights of the first and last selected steps (SE),
the total height is defined by the selection,
so the last step keeps its height

          or

          - the lowest and highest step in the selection (LH),
the total height is defined by the selection,
the last steps becomes the height of the highest face in the selection

- with HIGHT INPUT the height-definition is applied per step, beginning at the lowest step level.
Total height here is defined by amount of steps * step height, starting from first step

When everything works, the terrain will follow the steps with the defined offset (defined in context menu) to the top face of each step.

Select a sequence of unconnected surfaces/faces to create a row of single steps of any form.

MATERIALS

Steps have two materials : top and sidewards

RANDOM FACTOR PER STEP

Heights (per step) can be randomized from the context menue up to a certain extend (smooth variation).

KNOWN ERRORS

In some cases coplanar faces are created. This strongly depends on the form and quality of the basis mesh.
Sometimes it simply becomes weird for the algorithm (nobody's perfect).
Please try then to repair the mesh before you retry.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS:

SELECT STEPS
Select the steps' top faces right after they were created (context menu) and manipulate height via arow up/down.

SELECT STEPS & EXIT
Select the steps' top faces right after they were created (context menu).
By this the tool is closed and the selection remains active for further manipulation with other tools (especially vertical scaling for quick modification of the total height).
You can also make a group at this point.
